Spinoff-happy NBC is looking to turn another one of its hit dramas into a bonafide franchise.

The Peacock network is developing a spinoff of The Blacklist, with How to Get Away With Murder‘s Famke Janssen set as the female lead.

The May 12 episode of The Blacklist — directed by Justified vet Michael Dinner — will serve as a backdoor pilot for the potential series. Janssen’s character, Susan “Scottie” Halsted, will be introduced in the May 5 episode.

Rumor has it that Blacklist regular Ryan Eggold will have a major role in the project, with Tom and Scottie’s relationship mirroring the mothership’s Liz (Megan Boone)/Red (James Spader) dynamic.

A source, meanwhile, stresses that there is currently no series commitment for the spinoff. A decision will likely be made in May. (The Blacklist was already renewed for a fourth season, FYI.)

The news comes as NBC is preparing to expand its Chicago Fire franchise via a fourth program, titled Chicago Justice.

Famke Janssen has closed her deal to reprise her role in Taken 3, opposite Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace. Another film seemed a natural, since the franchise has done more than $600 million in global box office. Janssen has so far been limited to playing the helpless housewife, and I am not sure if it has occurred to the filmmakers at Europa, but Janssen has a very particular set of skills she has acquired over a very long career, skills that would make her a nightmare for the bad guys who show up in these movies. The Dutch actress first came to prominence as the femme fatale Xenia Onatopp in the James Bond filmGoldeneye, as she was cracking guys’ spines like walnuts with her aerobicized thighs. As X-Men’s Phoenix, she nearly destroyed the world with her powers. Neeson’s got to be tired by now, so isn’t it time to give Janssen a chance to kick some ass? She will next be seen in Screen Gems’ A Fighting Man with James Caan and Louis Gossett Jr and Eli Roth’s Netflix series Hemlock Grove. She’s repped by CAA and Brookside Artist Management.

X-Men actress Famke Janssen is to star in new Dutch thriller The Hero, which will be directed by her sister Antoinette Beumer (Loft) and has been written by her other sister Marjolein Beumer.

It will be the first time all three sisters have worked together on a film and is also the first starring role for Janssen in a Dutch feature.

Based on the novel by Jessica Durlacher, The Hero follows a Holocaust survivor who seeks revenge after masked men break into her house and shoot her husband and she is assaulted in the woods.

Janssen said: “We always talked about making a movie together and now we will have the chance to do so. I really look forward to this adventure with my sisters. Next to that it also feels great to star in a Dutch film for once.”

Producers are Rachel van Bommel and Antoinette Beumer of Millstreet Films.
